Cases

Here’s a statistic you would rather forget: Over 70% of Hepatitis C cases will become chronic. Chronic Hepatitis is caused by a virus which has been in the body for over 6 months and poses a very serious health risk (cirrhosis, liver cancer and liver failure).

Considering that, here’s another statistic you would rather forget more: There are around 170 million cases of Hepatitis C in the world at current. I’ll let you do the math.

So why on earth are there so many cases, and why aren’t they being stopped before they get chronic? Quite simply, there are so many cases because people are largely unaware of the risks, and they aren’t being stopped before they get chronic because a. there are often no symptoms shown until it gets to this point and b. Health Organisations are not currently treating Hepatitis as an epidemic.
